Choral Music   -   back

Selling this music is complicated, because of the copyrights held by the authors of the text or the music.  Here are the pieces which I can currently sell, either because the text and music are public domain, or my own work, or because I have permission from the original author(s):

Ancient Mother (traditional Native American, arr.) (2001)2:00
SATB chorus
Canonic and polytonal treatments of the tune - it's actually quite easy to sing, but has an unusual quality.

CASEVS VRBI (1997) (mp3) (rm)4:00
SATB chorus and piano
Text by Virgil, from The Eclogues.  A companion piece to "Uiuite Siluae", this is some extremely happy music.  The title means "Cheese for the city".  Premiered by my highschool's chorus, the Richard Montgomery Madrigals.

Christmastime (2003) (mp3) (rm) 24:00
vocal soloists, SATB chorus, and accompaniment by pipe organ or six musicians (clarinet, bassoon, violin/percussion, violin viola/violin, cello)Score and parts (6 instruments)
A Christmas Cantata in nine musically diverse movements - everything from catchy odd-meter tunes and yearning solos to unpitched choral singing and mystical polyphony.Score (organ version)
—Available on the CD 21st Century Christmas Choral part

Deep River (traditional American spiritual, arr.) (2003)3:00
SATB chorus
A straightforward and accessible arrangement of a great spiritual.

Ding Dong Angels We Have Heard Merrily On High (traditional French carols, arr.) (2002)3:15
SATB chorus and piano
An inventive combination and juxtaposition of two Christmas carols, very challenging, quite unique.  Also effective for four soloists rather than full choir.

"Earth" from Music of the Planets (2005)0:17 per phrase, 9:08 if performing all 33 phrases
SATB chorusFREE! Right-click and choose "Save As..."
Written to be one of eleven layers in my large work about the planets, this is a setting of the prayer "May peace prevail on Earth", consisting of the same short musical phrase sung in thirty-three different languages.  The score includes pronounciation guides (for anyone who's not familiar with Romanian, Tuvaluan, Kiribati, etc.)  A few of these phrases would be great as introits, chalice lightings, or other brief segments in a church service or interfaith musical performance.
—Mvt. I is available on the CD the undiscovered country

H/Allelu(ia/jah) (Randall Thompson and Georg Frideric Handel, arr.) (2006)3:00 — FREE!
SATB chorusRight-click and choose "Save As..."
A comical juxtaposition of the famous "Alleluia" and "Hallelujah Chorus".  All the material comes directly from those pieces, so a choir which has already learned the originals can put this together in no time.

Hark! hear you not a chearful noise (2002) (mp3) (rm) 1:30
SATB chorus and two percussionistsPercussion parts
An original Christmas carol, belonging in the "lively and upbeat" category.  One percussionist plays triangle and sleigh bells, the other woodblock and bongos.  Suitable for amateur choirs. Choral part
—Available on the CD 21st Century Christmas

It's Halloween! (2006)3:00
Children's chorus (2-part) and piano
The kids get to sing about ghosts and goblins, and dance around like skeletons and witches.  They'll love it.  A setting of an original poem.

Let Me Fly (traditional American, arr.) (2000)4:00
soprano and alto soloists, SSAA chorus
Written for Marla Wasson and Safonia in Denver, Colorado.  This very creative arrangement draws inspiration from gospel music and jazz harmonies as well as modern choral techniques.

Magnificat (My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord) (2000)1:30
SATB chorus
A simple and pretty setting of this familiar religious text, with unique harmonies.

O Holy Night (Adolphe Adam, arr.) (2006)4:00
alto soloist, SSAA chorus, acoustic guitar, bass, four percussionists (triangle, kabasa, shaker, conga)
Choral score
Written for Marla Wasson and Safonia in Denver, Colorado.  A transformation of the somber French carol into a lively Brazilian celebration!  A soloist sings in Brazilian Portuguese, but the choir only in English. Instrumental parts
—Available on Safonia's Christmas CD, Unexpected

Sakura (traditional Japanese, arr.) (2003) (mp3) (rm) 3:00
SATB chorus, accompanied by piano or Japanese 21-string kotoKoto part
I tried to approach the tune in more of an Eastern than a Western fashion, so this arrangement has a meditative feel, with the piano or koto providing an atmospheric accompaniment.  The choral part presents the familiar tune with intriguing twists, such as melodic inversion, rhythmic augmentation, and stretto.Choral/piano part

Songs of Life and Death (2005) (mp3)22:00

Swing Low, Sweet Chariot (traditional American, arr.) (2000) (mp3) (rm) 3:00

My interpretation of a classic spiritual, incorporating what I've learned from arrangers like William Dawson.  Suitable for amateur choirs.

Uiuite Siluae (1997) (mp3) (rm) 2:30
SATB chorus (divisi to SSATBB) and piano
Text by Virgil, from The Eclogues.  A companion piece to "CASEVS VRBI", this is a sorrowful piece with lush harmonies.  The title means "Farewell now the woods".  Suitable for amateur choirs.

Visions of Peace (various, arr.) (2003)3:30

This work combines several familiar hymn tunes and texts to create a powerful statement - a universal call for peace.
