The Beatles' "And Your Bird Can Sing" for eight-voice chorus and piano
Music of the Planets for
thirty musicians and audience - a unique piece on an ancient concept,
representing the motion of the planets through music. The
performers are divided into eleven groups: each planet is played by a
different group of instruments or voices (Jupiter is performed by the
audience), the sun is played by a pipe organ, and a passing comet is
played by the children in the audience. The music seeks to
express the character of each planet (in astronomical and astrological
terms), and the timing of each event in the piece is derived from the
speed of the planets' revolution.
